The Bolivar County Volunteer Fire Department (BCVFD) is made up entirely of volunteers who bravely protect a huge area of 890 square miles in Bolivar County, Mississippi. Formed in 1973, the BCVFD brought together many independent fire stations to work as a team. The department is organized as battalions which collectively respond to 375-425 emergencies each year:
- Battalion 1: Boyle, Renova, Pace, Merigold, Eastgate Subdivision, and Symmonds
- Cleveland Station: Engine 151, Engine 152, Tanker 161, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, Squad 1, and the Hazardous Materials and Grain Bin Rescue equipment.
- Merigold Station: Engine 154
- Battalion 2: Duncan, Alligator, Round Lake
- Duncan Station: Engine 252, Engine 251
- Battalion 3: Scott, Grapeland, Stringtown
- Scott Station: Engine 351
- Battalion 4: Gunnison, Terrene Landing, Donaldson Point, Round Lake
- Gunnison Station: Engine 451, Tanker 461
- Battalion 5: Shaw, Choctaw, Porter Bayou
- Shaw Station: Engine 551, Tanker 561
- Battalion 6: Benoit, Benoit Outing Club
- Benoit Station: Engine 651, Engine 652, Tanker 661
Among these, Battalion One is responsible for the largest area (245 square miles) and is always the busiest, responding to approximately 300 calls for help annually. All county fire stations are un-manned, so if you have an emergency, please dial 9-1-1. We are always in need of new volunteers, so please check out these pages and consider submitting an application.
